The IWA helps members network with local organisations that provide support for women in Graz and Styria, like the Seddwell Center, an English-speaking community center in Graz, as well as with our sister organisation in Vienna (the American Women’s Association). The IWA began a collaboration with the Graz City Library in 2025 to support children’s English literacy development. In 2026, we are proud to continue our financial support for two special children’s English book readings as part of the library’s LABUKA Spracheninsel program.
This collaboration also underlines our support in 2026 for the National Year of Reading campaign led by the UK Department for Education together with the UK National Literacy Trust. This campaign has been designed to help more people (re)discover the joy of reading and make it part of their everyday lives.
The Global Partnership for Education and UNESCO describe how encouraging children to become literate in multiple languages helps to promote linguistically inclusive and therefore peaceful societies. Our IWA members know from first-hand experience how important it is for their children to become fluent in the German language, while retaining fluency in languages spoken at home.
You can find great children's (and other) English books at our next IWA Book Fair planned in October 2026 (date coming soon!). Proceeds from book sales go to our 2026 charity.
