DESCRIPTION:As part of a “get fit in 2025” initiative the IWA is cordially invited to take part in this “parkrun” taking place in Stadtpark. \n\nSarah K. will be there and you will probably see a few familiar IWA faces.\nBring your husbands\, partners\, kids and dogs to walk\, jog or run a 5 km stretch around Stadtpark. If you are unsure about your ability you can just do one or two rounds (i.e. 1\,5 or 3 km) and then chat with the organizational team as the others finish. This is not a race – or a particularly sporty group.\n\nparkrun is free\, and just know that you will never be last – we have a dedicated person bringing up the rear!\n\n\nparkrun always starts at 9.00 sharp (every Saturday)\, briefing and welcome is at about 8:45.\n\n\nAfterwards we go for coffee at Café Turners on Karmeliterplatz.\n\n\n\nMeeting place is the former “traffic garden” next to the children’s play area. There is still time to stand for a position\, see the email for more information. \nIf you cannot attend the AGM in person\, it will be possible for you to cast a vote in the Elections online between March 10-13 (noon). A link will be sent out to all members on March 10. \nAlso at this event\, the General Membership (that’s you and everyone else!) is invited to vote on changes to our German Bylaws\, which will keep us consistent with the current BMF regulations. Please review the changes (attached to the email we sent you) in advance of the meeting. \nYou are also warmly invited to share your feedback\, ideas\, and any motions for change (please note any motions that you would like to present at the AGM must be submitted in writing to the Executive Board (iwagraz@gmail.com) at least three (3) days before the date of the AGM (that means March 10). \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \n

SUMMARY:April General Meeting: Mangroves of the Solomon Islands
DESCRIPTION:In April\, the IWA invites you to travel to the South Pacific with us and enter a world of mysterious mangrove forests and feminine power over the resources within them. \nWe have asked Heide K. Bruckner (University of Graz) to share the food\, climate\, and feminist dimensions of her work in the Solomon Islands.  \nMangrove forests are found in tropical swamp regions where the land and sea meet\, areas home to some of the most biologically complex ecosystems on Earth. Because these plants can efficiently absorb and store carbon from the atmosphere\, they have gained fame as “climate superheroes”. But mangroves have different meanings for local communities that depend on them for food and firewood. These forests are highly gendered spaces\, key to indigenous food sovereignty and cultural identity. They are also threatened by logging and resource exploitation. \nBased on her pioneering research in the Solomon Islands\, South Pacific\, Dr. Bruckner shows that more locally based and inclusive feminist approaches to mangroves (and their management) are needed to meet entangled food and climate justice goals. In her talk\, she will present insights from her ongoing work with gender\, mangroves\, and food systems\, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities of transnational feminism and environmental justice. \nPlease sign up to join this event by sending us an e-mail.
